In Memory

William D. Gentry

August 1, 1945 - August 5, 2004

59 Years Old

From Bill's son:

He was a great man and Dad.  He served as an Army Airborne Ranger in Vietnam.  1965.  Wounded and nearly killed.  Lived with an amputated leg and fingers but led a full life of golf and horses despite.  Three college grad kids.  Two boys, both firemen and a daughter who runs a daycare center in the Bay.  Was married to our mom for 13 years.  Lived the last 18 years of his life in Tahoe City. Was enjoyed and appreciated by nearly everyone he met for his exuberant attitude.  He always kept a special dark attitude for non righteous and evil persons of this world.  Personally, though I’ll forever benefit from his doctrine of “tomorrow is a promise made to nobody”.

Bill and I had a couple of classes together and had lots of conversations walking from class to class.  He was very sweet and will forever have a place in my heart, when he came to my aid in science class.  We ran into each other years later while we were living in the same neighborhood.  Conversations resumed as if no time had passed.  He was very brave and has always been a fond and lasting memory for me.  He is missed!

I feel compelled to say something about Bill giving so much for our country.  I can't even begin to imagine the things he experienced while in Viet Nam and words cannot express the amount of gratitude I have for him and for each and every man and woman who bravely made sacrifiecs for all of us.  I'm truly honored to have known him.

I had Bill in my homeroom class & new him as a nice person.

He was a track star of our school; very fast runner.

I knew he went to Vietnam & stepped on a landmine I believe.

So sorry to hear of his passing; & yes, he gave so VERY MUCH for his country & us!

RIP!

Guy Gardner
